Paramedics case study

What does a Paramedic do?

Paramedics work autonomously as independent health care practitioners, guided by precedent, and clearly defined operating guidelines. On arrival at an incident, they make dynamic risk assessments of the environment and general situation, having due respect for the safety of all parties. They provide an operational response to all emergency calls without delay, and all critical hospital patient transfer tasks. They form clinical care and advanced treatment plans including clinical interventions and invasive techniques such as intubation, cannulation, injections, and defibrillation, often avoiding the need for an ED attendance. Paramedics also work collaboratively in highly stressful situations alongside other first responders and in a range of environments including cruise ships, GP surgeries and ED resus.
