In this session, you will…
■ Understand the impact of poor mental health within the biopsychosocial model
■ Think about the effects of stigma attached to mental health
■ Learn about the origins of poor mental health and some common mental health conditions
■ Understand emotional regulation
■ Focus on diagnosis, e.g. anxiety, depression, PTSD, paranoia, psychosis, and associated conditions
■ Consider the effect of psychiatric medication and how this may affect client’s physiology
■ Explore and understand the challenges faced and how to promote hope and empathy
■ Prepare delegates for working with people to support their individual needs.
Who is the training for?
People working or volunteering in NHS, voluntary, community, social care and independent council organisations.
Recommended for support staff e.g. (this list is not exhaustive) receptionists, health care assistants, peer support workers, prescription clerks, pharmacy staff, community workers.

Suicide awareness video for pharmacy
This video aims to increase awareness of suicide prevention for pharmacy professionals and their teams.
On completion of all aspects of this learning programme, you should be able to:
■ Explain pharmacy’s role in supporting suicide prevention
■ Describe how you could support people who are thinking of or affected by suicide refer patients to key resources.
